Combining our expertise with our passion for our communities.

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – H.R Gray had the opportunity to combine our expertise in recreation & parks construction management and ADA compliance for the City of Westerville to beautify and renovate bike paths and walkways for citizens.

H.R. Gray was retained by the City of Westerville to provide construction management services for the Hempstead Road Bike Path Improvements. H.R. Gray also oversaw the construction of new sidewalks and ADA curb ramps within intersections along Hempstead Road as well as full depth replacement of eight intersections.

The improvements provided for improved safety for pedestrians and bicyclists along this portion of the Westerville Bike and Walkway System, which is part of the City’s larger 28-mile system of leisure paths and trails. In addition to the new bike path, drainage improvements including the installation of storm sewers and landscape features were added along the path.

The existing paths were rebuilt as they did not meet current City nor Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The new bike path is located within the existing right-of-way. The project included a 4,000 L.F., 10 foot wide asphalt bike path along Hempstead Road, with a 95 foot long pedestrian bridge which spans over a creek.
