AKRON, OHIO – In 2014, H.R. Gray won a contract with the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority to provide professional construction management services for the Reach Opportunity Center project. This project was targeted for a fast track construction process with a planned duration of just 18 months. H.R. Gray provided preconstruction services, scheduling, programming, bidding, construction management and post-construction services.

A wide variety of stakeholders were involved in coordinating this opportunity for growth in the Akron community. These organizations include the Akron Public Schools, City of Akron, Akron Summit Community Action, Child Guidance & Family Solutions, Greenleaf Family Center, Akron Summit Public Library, Summit County Department of Job and Family Services, Project LEARN, Goodwill Industries, and the Boys and Girls Club.

The Center, funded by a Department of Housing and Urban Development Grant, includes classrooms, a kitchen, computer lab, and large multipurpose rooms. The Design Build project was a collaborative effort between AMHA, the City of Akron, the Akron Public Schools, and Akron-Summit Community Action.

The Opportunity Center, which is available to anyone in the neighborhood, and promotes school readiness for children under the age of 5 and will provide services to their parents and other adults who need help learning computer skills, obtaining a GED, and general career development. We are proud to have made this facility possible for the Akron community.
